25th anniversary of Isabella Sinclaire — Power Structures

After Sabrina Belladonna’s partnership at the Velvet Underground came to an end, she reached out to thank me for letting her know her partners were stealing her equipment and asked to take me to lunch. I still didn’t know many people in LA so I gladly accepted. During lunch, she asked what my plans were and honestly, I had none. So we devised a plan to rent a loft downtown Los Angeles. It was a shady street off of Alameda on skid row next to a fish market so we didn’t think management would mind if we built a dungeon. And in 1996, they were just happy to have tenants so unit 301 at 1308 Factory Place became our home. We called it Power Structures and as we moved on, it was passed down to other Dommes for over 20 years but it served me well for a few years and was my first experience of being my own boss.
